How to create a custom URL for your FaceBook business page

Why not create your own custom URL that's built on your own domain?  Creating a friendly URL is easy if you have your domain registered through Pro Epic Hosting.  Other companies offer a similar service.  The concept is the same in any case.

 

We have created a business page on FaceBook.  (Formerly known as fan pages.)   The URL is: http://www.facebook.com/pages/Weatherford-TX/Pro-Epic-Technology-Solutions/122925024786.  Not very easy to remember, is it?

Let's shorten that to something that makes sense, like http://facebook.pro-epic.com.  We'll do that by creating a subdomain and redirecting it to our FaceBook page address.

The procedure is really easy.  Here are the steps.

1.  Login to your Pro Epic Hosting account.
2.  Select "Domain Manager" from the left sidebar.

3. Place a checkmark in the box of the the appropriate domain.

4. Hold your mouse over the "Forward" icon in the top menu bar.  Select "Forward Subdomain" when it appears on the screen.

5. Click on the "Add Subdomain" link.
6. Enter the name of your new subdomain below "Add Subdomain".
7. Enter the target URL under "Forward this subdomain to:".  To ensure that you entered the URL correctly, click on "preview".
8. Click "OK"

9. A new screen will appear that lists your forwarded domains and subdomains.  Click "OK" again.

You are finished!  Please give the system about fifteen minutes to create the necessary entries. This is a good time to take a break and do some office exercises.

After your break, type your new subdomain in the address bar of your browser.  In our example we used http://facebook.pro-epic.com.

Don't forget to tell all of your friends about your new custom URL.  You don't have to tell them how easy it was to create.  That will be our secret.
