Has this ever happened to you?
Have you ever been to the website of a company that you just know carries an item you are interested in, but not been able to find that item on their site? The site may not have a search box, or the menus may not be easy to navigate.
Or… maybe you find the link on their site that exactly lists the item you want. But alas, when you click the link the ominous, "the page you have requested cannot be found" - or some sort of "under construction" message displays . How frustrating.
How many times have you looked for a company's contact information and had trouble finding it on their website? You search their website for information on how to contact them. You look for a phone number or e-mail address, so you may communicate with a real live person for assistance. Are you able to easily find the company's contact information?
How does your website measure up?
Do customers who visit your website run into any of the issues noted above? Does your website give visitors a feeling of confidence for doing business with you? Do you routinely check your website to be sure all the links work and its information is up-to-date?
- Here are a few simple, but important elements for a well designed website.
- The website should be well organized in a logical structure.
- The menus on the site should be easy to navigate.
- The menus should have consistent placement on the various pages of the site.
- Menus should function without mystery navigation.
- The site's pages should have a consistent appearance (color scheme, fonts, layout).
- The business contact information should be easy to find.
- None of the site's pages should be, "Under Construction." If a page isn't ready, it shouldn't be published.
- All the site's links should work. Pages should display without error. Pictures should display without error.
- The site should be free of grammatical and spelling errors. Our English teachers should be so proud.
It's a Win-Win Kind of Thing
Have you ever wanted to get an extra special gift for someone? How did you go about finding the store(s) you would go to on your quest of the perfect gift? How will your customers find super wonderful gifts for the special people in their lives.
If your customers can find your business as well as mention of that special gift on the Internet, you have obtained a sale as well as saved your customer money. It's a win-win scenario.
The sale happens because the customer is able to locate your business online, know the kinds of products your carry, and knows how to contact you… because you kindly put your contact information on every page of your website. You saved the customer money on ever-expensive gasoline, because they don't have to drive all over the countryside to find the special gift anymore. This certainly does not imply that you "need" to have an online store for all your products. All you need on your website is well organized information about your products and services, and be sure your business contact information is easy for visitors to find.
As always, if you have any questions, comments or just want to say hello, don't hesitate to contact us. Our contact information is at the bottom of every page of our website, and also available through the "Contact Us" link at the top of every page.
