Animation within a banner requires more planning and production work. This is because the animation is built of multiple "frames" which are a series of still images all saved in the same file. The multiple frames are displayed in rapid succession that simulates movement - the animation.
- Animation running 10 seconds or less, then loops. (10 frames maximum)
- Provides the ability to show more than one "message." (We suggest no more than 4 "messages" per banner.)
- Animated text effects.
- GIF file format.

Advantages of the Animated GIF Format
- Universally accepted and supported by all web hosts and banner ad services.
- The viewer does not need any special software installed in their web browser in order to view the animated GIF.
Disadvantages of the Animated GIF Format
- Animated GIF files with several frames will create larger file sizes, resulting in slightly longer download times, than will a similar Flash SWF file.

Advantages of the Flash SWF Format
- Flash movies can contain more frames than an animated GIF file, and still maintain a relatively small file size.
- Flash animations tend to look cleaner and move more smoothly than animated GIFs.
Disadvantages of the Flash SWF Format
- Not universally accepted or supported by all banner ad services.
- The viewer needs to have the Flash Player plug-in installed in their web browser in order to view the SWF movie.
