Pro Epic's pilot project for website security has detected and stopped 883 hacking or spam attempts in the past 30 days. The pilot project included 5 separate hosting accounts and 37 individual websites. During the pilot project no malware was placed on any of the websites. No pages were defaced, and no spam entries were submitted in comments or articles.
We are pleased to announce that the security and monitoring services are now standard equipment for web hosting accounts purchased through Pro Epic Managed Services.
The pilot project involved a combination of security and monitoring software. Portions of the software run on each web server or hosting account and monitor all websites that are hosted on that account. Other portions of the software run remotely to monitor the status of individual websites and to control certain software modules on the web servers.
We are not able to discuss all of the details of the security system publicly, but it is safe to say that the system is designed to automatically adapt to new threats. The system is made up of a diverse and modular architecture that makes it easy to add or modify components of the system.
The security software reports referring websites as well as suspicious links. As a service to the web community, Pro Epic has begun reporting suspicious links to the owners of third party websites. In most cases the website owners have no other way to know that their website has been compromised.
There is no such thing as a perfect security system, but by using the best available security software and procedures the threats of hacking and malware can be greatly reduced.
